This historic area is a fine place to live for young and old, singles or families. Our SW8 letting agents have taken a look at what makes Clapham a great place to rent or buy property and why it still attracts so many people.

An urban village attracting both renters & buyers

Clapham attracts people of all ages and stages in life. It’s high street and surrounding areas are loved by the younger residents. Full of hustle and bustle and with a thriving nightlife, it attracts the younger portion of the property market, both renters and buyers alike. Social professionals and students choose this as a vibrant place to live. They enjoy it’s many bars, restaurants and coffee shops daily. Come the weekend though, the same coffee shops will be full of families with small children.

Clapham has a very rich history and a property selection that suits every style and budget

Travelling in and out of the city is not a problem from here as the transport links are fantastic. The commute from Clapham Junction is a mere ten minutes into the city. You can also get a train from here to Gatwick Airport and further onward if you so wished. It is a great location for not only commuter travel but travel further afield too.

Busy rental market in north Clapham

The rental market is busy here. While the costs of rents have risen over the last number of years it is still a very popular area with students and young professionals. Many of them choose to rent on the north side where cheaper accommodation can be found or in the Wandsworth side where there is a cheaper rate of council tax to be availed of.

Either way there is a flourishing rental market with plenty of things to do on Clapham High Street and a tube station and overground station in Clapham North which makes the area perfect for commuting.

South Clapham & Old Town are ideal for families

If a purchase is what you are after, Clapham Old Town and South Clapham are both ideal spots for families or those who may need some more space over time. South Clapham may feel a little further out, due to it’s proximity to the underground but both are beautiful areas filled with Victorian and Georgian terraced houses and with plenty of private school options nearby are good solid family locations.

With regards to new build homes there are plenty of developments to choose from. Thornton Park at Clapham Common South Side, 330 Clapham Road or Parkside Place off Kings Avenue are just three worth a mention. When people buy in Clapham they generally stay here. The area has a wonderful feel and is well worth exploring.
